Going, going, gone!

Posted by: Louis @ 10:00 pm

Today was the day of reckoning: now or never, time to face the music and all that. But it is over now, and let normal life recommence!

By the way, hope that no one else is not flipping through the texts, trying to find out all the things that he/she failed to recall during the exam right now! Just kidding.

As we all agreed over the post-exam dinner bash (buffet at Merchant Court), it was generally a bummer of a paper*! For once, the science of ‘trends analysis’ has met its match and proved to be ineffective. The style of questions has deviated significantly from the 2002 and Pilot papers. The multiple choice questions were on the verge of being annoyingly tricky; the long questions a serious test on our storage capacity – the brain matter, in case you missed it. Not to complain or anything given the late starts in preparation… 🙂

Some valuable things I have learnt over dinner:

  • No need to be too serious when studying, because seriousness has no correlation with exam preparation (attributed to Joshua);
  • We seem to have some potential stand-up comedians in our midst, although surprisingly there seems to be a concentration of stories on tattoos!?
  • Patricia seems to have taken a liking to her role;
  • When it comes to pubs, there are always some more keen than others.

I am glad I am doing this course with a great bunch of guys and gals, and to be able to have a good laugh from time to time. Great also that we will be meeting up occasionally outside of class, like rollerblading/cycling at East Coast this Sunday for example.

Good night to all and have a well-deserved break. It’s business – work – as usual tomorrow, before the next edition of exams in December! Or, as some of the ambitious souls who planned to have a head start for Module B, sooner than we think!?

* That is an Australian expression by the way. Kind of self-explanatory, no?

  1. Coming, coming, coming…. is the next retake of this exam. I am now mourning for the disaster at Expo. It was a total washout! Never had I felt so lousy about the exams I’ve taken in my entire life.

    Lesson learnt: prepare early! We’ve all underestimate this course. That is why I am going to start my Module B this weekend at our usual haunt…. hehehe…. just want to have a unfair advantage in the form of a early headstart.

    As Louis commented, it was a good feeling to be able to be back to those good old schooling days. Actually, it was good short getaway from stressful and hectic working life. At least it makes you feel young again, just like when you were just someone in their early twenties. The only worry you have are exams and assignments. The cycle we went through last week: wake-up, have breakfast, study, have lunch, study, have tea-break, study, have dinner, study and then go back to sleep again, only to wake up to the same cycle the next day. It was great having a bunch of interesting and helpful people around. Great study group.

    It was more than 5.5 years since I last took an exam of this level. It was an indescribable experience. A mixture of anxiety and familiarity of the exam hall experience, and the aftermath which we’ll all gather, compare results. The most important objective is find out how the rest fare. Honestly, I felt slightly better when I realize the rest are not doing very well too…….hehehe 🙂

  2. Lousy feeling? No doubt about it…… so agree with josh on that. I’m all prepared to retake the exam!! It started out really fine and partially deceiving when the mcqs were rather do-able. Then it went downhill from there when i started the 1st long question. Unable to get the answer that was expected, the sinking feeling of impending disaster started coming. With the lack of time, i almost decide to give up and leave the exam hall. It was merely pride and the want to complete the disasterous exam that made me stay on. Never felt so bad about an exam before!

    The study group was great, without whom i would have stayed at home to sleep and slack in my revision! Also got to know some classmates better and resulted in better bonding! Thanks folks, you are great!

    The post-exam dinner ‘celebration’ was wonderful, gave all of us a chance to relax and to interact. Interacting – something that our class lacked of during class time! Hopefully the extra outings will create stronger bonds and more laughs!

    There was a great sense of voidness when i returned home. We’ve been mugging very hard for that 1 paper and suddenly it’s over. Nothing to mug for the time being. It seemed so strange and suddenly i felt so lost – but i always feel this way after an exam. The good side is – i’m back at work and that fills the void. Bad side is – i’m back at work!

    I think we deserve a short break before starting on the next module. I don’t have the discipline of some who are starting so early, but i’ll try my best!

    Lunch break is almost over… back to the realities of life! Cherios pals!

  3. The intensive ‘boot camp’ was definitely a new experience for me because I have always opted to study in the comfort of my home during Uni days. However, as Angie also highlighted, I think I would have ended up waking up late every morning and seeing half of the day gone before I start revising. I am sure this group will come handy again come November! 🙂

  4. I am glad that the exam is over. Although, I know very well that I won’t be able to scrap through. This is the first exam that I think I will not scrap through. Well, there is always something first in life to happen. But I seriously hope that this is the last one.

    I enjoyed studying with the study group. It is also my first time to have a study group. Never experience this during my Uni days. Now, I realized what I have lost. Looking forward to have more interaction with this group through the forthcoming activities.

    By the way, what role am I supposed to take? Err..How come I “like” my new role? I wasn’t aware of this.

  5. You people are the BEST!!! Had a great time studying.

    Remind me of Uni as well.

    Great activities ahead, it appears. Hope everyone turns up.

    See ya on Sunday.

    Cheers

  6. Hi guys,

    Looking at all the posting about the horror of the last exams, I am more or less glad that my work and the shifting of the warehouse has got me giving the exams up.

    However, somehow or rather, I wish for myself to be there with you guys slogging it out, have dinners and study sessions. I guess it boils down to me just missing the school days.

    Anyway, be looking forward to carry on with the second module of the course and hopefully, we will all be able to meet up again.

    Cheers
